January Goal Setting

With a new year it seems only appropriate to take time to clear the dust and cobwebs away and begin fresh and new!  I'll do that when I put away my Christmas decorations, but for now, I'm doing that in my sewing room.

I have so many ideas and so much fabric to put into those ideas. Having access to so many blogs and seeing all you wonderful people making gorgeous quilts in every color and design leaves my mind, well, simply put - boggled!  Which quilt to do? Where to start? "Oh, oh, oh! I like that one. Wait! No - I love that one."  My tendency is to have the My-Eyes-Are-Bigger-Than-My-Stomach Syndrome.  You know the one - I bite off more than I can chew.

So, once again I am thankful for my bloggy friends to have challenges in place to keep me on task and moving forward! This year I am going to participate in A Lovely Year of Finishes by Fiber of All Sorts and Sew BitterSweet Designs.  Also, Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework Scrap-A-Palooza (don't ya just love that name!) will be hosting a Scrappy Quilt Along this year and I'm jumping in on that one, too.

A Lovely Year of Finishes

Quilting is more fun than Housework

Just these two things. That's all I can put on my plate this year.  I'd love to do a BOM, QAL or some swaps, but realistically, I don't have time. I would start out fine and then fail by not following through and then feel bad. So I'm not going there.  If I can get 12 projects of my own finished this year, I will give myself a hardy Pat On The Back!

So to start off, my January Finish will be getting this quilt top pieced together, quilted and bound. I've got most of the pieces cut out already. I'm using a pattern that I won in December from Michelle who blogs as Mrs. Sew And Sew.  It's called Round & Round by Camille Roskelley.  So far, I'm liking the overall design.  I'm not sure about the gray background fabric that I chose. Gray is just not my color, but when it comes all together, it will probably work just fine.

Since I began my longarm quilting business, the time I have to make things 'just because' is very limited. So I'm excited to have these goals in place for this year.  It will be fun to hear what your quilty goals are for 2014!

Quilt with a smile,

Linking up with Linky Tuesday at Freemotion by the River!
and Needle and Thread Thursday

  1. Thanks for posting about my scrap series. I'm happy to hear you will be following along! Good luck in your goals. I understand perfectly how running a business cuts into your sewing time!

  2. Sounds like some good goals. I just wish I had time to do some "quilt-a-longs". Toooooo much to do....toooooo little time! Good luck! :)

  3. I just purchased that pattern - haven't decided on fabrics yet. I have a lovely little turquoise print I might use for the background. Can't wait to see yours! Great goals - good luck with them!

  4. Since we seem to live parallel lives--I should have known you have been getting your Goal list in order. Mine seems to still be swirling around in my head. It is time for me to get it out on paper! Thanks for the kick in the pants. And may the "Luck of the Needle Be With You"!

  5. Its me again, Something has happened with my computer! Just wanted to give you a heads up that I linked you to my post.

  6. Bard, I guess we can see why the cobbler's children have no shoes and the attorney dies without a will - our customers always come first! I have 40+ quilt tops that I pieced which house/pet sitting for my daughter while she was deployed to Afghanistan (hard to quilt when your machine is across the country), but I can't get them quilted because my customers have quilts that need quilting too! Because all my quilting is hand-guided, free-motion quilting, I am standing there moving the machine to do the quilting! Makes me think about getting another longarm with a computer system so I can be doing two quilts at the same time! I might get something of mine done that way!!! I need to schedule in at least one of my quilts a month to spend time on the longarm getting quilted. I do mostly custom quilting, very little E2E, so quilting takes much longer on every quilt! Guess I need to get my goal list for the year written up and follow it! Thanks for the push I needed!!!

  7. Barb, not Bard!!! Color me red :)

  8. Beautiful fabrics....I see batiks!! I hope your longarm business is doing well and it is very typical that then we run out of time to make things for ourselves. Have fun with your projects, that looks like it will be a neat quilt! Thanks for sharing.

  9. That quilt looks like it'll be lovely!

  10. That round & round pattern looks so cute. I've seen it before and love it. I love batiks too. They are so delicious to work with. I love the way they press. Have a good year with your goals and long arming business. Happy Quilting.

  11. I think you're right about the gray. when it all comes together it's going to be lovely!

Thanks so much for sharing at Needle and Thread Thursday!

Remembering All The Little Things

I have let my blog side away in lieu of posting photos and updates over on Instagram. For me, it takes less time, and is a faster way to doc...
