For me, it takes less time, and is a faster way to document my quilting journey.

But for a little eye candy today, this is what I have been up to most recently:

My bad. But I wanted to share with you a little quilt I have donated to Jack's Baskets, a charity associated with Hands2Help spearheaded by Sarah over at Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Sorta. As I finished this little quilt, I just kept thinking "A star is born!" As I added the star as the crowning piece to this fun little tree, I just couldn't get that out of my head. Must have been that the third remake of the movie was in theaters this month, lol.
I had great fun making this wall hanging with this Yuletide Fir pattern by Susan of QuiltFabrication. This is going to be a short post (hopefully) because I have limited time. But I have been working hard this summer to get these quilts finished and out of my To Do Pile. I feel pretty good that I completed 7 of my 8 goals. Go, me!
Here is the list of my Q3 FAL goals and the results:
1. Scott and Lauren's Quilt - need to be completed by Sept. 28 Wedding. COMPLETED!
2. If you've followed me here or on Instagram, you are no doubt familiar with this quilt. It was my personal challenge quilt, and one that I am pleased to have made!
The wedding is Saturday, but the quilt is not really a surprise. Here at our mountain cabin it's getting down to 32 or lower each night. And September is rapidly churning toward October! The hummingbirds have gone south already - smart birds. And the squirrels are busy as can be gathering pine nuts for the long, cold days ahead.
A hike to Fishhook Creek - a few snow fields remain on north side of the Sawtooths!

What is it about making a king sized quilt that makes it seem like it just drags on and on forever? Oh, yeah. They are HUGE! And every step just takes that much longer.

I've gotten sidetracked this week. As is the case in all the Western States, July and August seem to have become synonymous with wildfires. Sunday, a wildfire in mountainous pines and brush was started by some people shooting exploding targets. What the ??? Have you ever seen a video of exploding targets? It's like shooting off fireworks, with sparks flying in every direction!

Everyone brought a half yard of the ugliest fabric in their stash. All fabrics were placed in a paper sack, and then we closed our eyes and each drew one out.
With our new ugly fabric, the task was to create a table runner using the fabric as a main focal point in the runner.
At this juncture, many people liked the fabric they drew. But not me!Barb Neiwerthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05489488237974557963noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5678914192271091714.post-43287402782753407842018-07-26T00:01:00.000-06:002018-07-29T10:37:40.100-06:00Christmas in July Blog Hop and Giveaway! So glad you could stop by my house for a little Christmas in July celebration! My thanks goes to Carol, from Just Let Me Quilt, for hosting this blog hop to help get you inspired to create Christmas magic! It's so fun to see what other quilters are making. What great motivation to come up with some ideas for yourself.
To help get you in the mood for Christmas sewing and quilting, I've come up Barb Neiwerthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05489488237974557963noreply@blogger.com68tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5678914192271091714.post-18187598600646085492018-07-10T10:18:00.002-06:002018-07-10T10:18:56.900-06:00Ambitious Thinker Here: Third Quarter Finish-A-Long ProjectsAmbitious, yes. Motivated, yes. A Finisher? Maaaaybe?
It seems I have started way more projects than can fit under my needle, so I have written them down here, and will print them out, mark them off, and be thrilled when they are all completed! Do you have to do that? Keep specific track of your quilting projects because you leap over to a new one now and again? (Mostly again....)
At any rate, Barb Neiwerthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05489488237974557963noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5678914192271091714.post-78138531130443620222018-07-05T15:05:00.000-06:002018-07-05T15:10:33.434-06:00Wedding Quilt BluesSo, a funny thing happened on the way to making this quilt: I didn't. My son and soon-to-be daughter-in-law picked out this pattern nearly two years ago. I searched out the right colors for it, bought them, and they have tucked neatly away in a storage bin since then.
Why? Fear. Those curves through me for a loop. And the foundation paper piecing! Priceless, right?
So when I went to visit him in Portland this spring, I took a look at the quilt. It was a very, very simple patchwork quilt, one I had made back in 2002 before I really began my quilting journey in earnest. I had cut six-inch squares from old, denim, Barb Neiwerthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05489488237974557963noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5678914192271091714.post-71561975772135890062018-06-29T15:22:00.001-06:002018-07-01T08:24:49.469-06:00Hailey's Star Quilt Quilted!!!I did it! It's been two years since I finished piecing this quilt, and now it has sat on my longarm for almost a month. Seriously, who does that?

I, of course, have good reasons for not getting this gem quilted. (We all do, don't we?) It's been quite a month for me! First my husband officially retired after 34 years with his company. We had a big celebration, and a fun time was had by all.
That was the first week of April. Then we got sick. I got the shingles and then I caught the flu. He has the flu crud, too. Not exactly how we wanted to begin our retired life, but we're on the mend now, so I'm playing catch up.Barb Neiwerthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05489488237974557963noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5678914192271091714.post-44538016387077491602018-04-26T04:00:00.000-06:002018-04-26T04:00:02.624-06:00Custom Quilting for an Appliqued Gem!
My latest client quilt turned out to be a lot of fun with a variety of custom quilting throughout! As I was quilting, I kept thinking of it as The Bunny Quilt, for good reason, don't you think?
This top was pieced a few years ago and was her first attempt at applique. I think she got the hang of it pretty well!
She used fabrics that were very traditional, maybe even some French Barb Neiwerthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05489488237974557963noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5678914192271091714.post-76732301773507627612018-04-24T14:30:00.001-06:002018-07-27T07:30:59.606-06:00Hands2Help 2018 Quilt On Its Way!It sure feels good to give, doesn't it? As I was putting this quilt together, I came to think of it as my Prairie Quilt! The fabrics are from Basic Gray's Persimmon collection for Moda. When this collection came out, I was drawn to the variety of prints, many traditional but sprinkled with a modern flair. And it reminded me of a Little House on the Prairie theme.
So I got my AccuQuilt cutter out and started making six-inch blocks. Barb Neiwerthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05489488237974557963noreply@blogger.com21
