My Scrappy Blue Quilt is ready for quilting! |
And what to my wondering eyes did appear, but an excellent variety of blues. I had pastel blues, aquamarines, azures, cobalts, sky blues, peacock blues, teal blues, and even some greens began sneaking into the party! I didn't even realize I had so many blues to choose from since blue is far from being my Go To Color!
I started out with this:
And ended up with this!
I think, however, that I made an error in the block placement. I have zigzags running kitty corner from bottom to top, but a lot of their paths got messed up and ran into dead ends.
I even turned my cell phone pic into a black and white, so I could 'see' if there were any really bad arrangements of the blocks, or if the zigzag path went where I wanted it to. At one point in laying out the completed blocks, I got so frustrated with it, that I just decided to sew it together the way I had it and call it good. I'm not even certain if I did lay them out better, if they would even play out with the vision I had in my head. Pulling out a piece of graph paper and taking a little time to sketch my 'vision' most decidedly would have helped. But I wanted to see the finished quilt! Oh, yes, I am a woman of little patience, lol!
Getting this quilt top together satisfied my OMG goal for January, and I will get it quilted up and bound for my February OMG goal. I have other projects in the works, too. And I'm looking forward to getting them finished as well!
Quilting with a smile,
Barb

Hi Barb,
ReplyDeleteI look at this as kind of a maze quilt. Sometimes the path you pick doesn't go through. No big deal, right?! I love the outcome - lots of lovely blues represented there and aren't all the color names just great?! ~smile~ Roseanne
Very pretty Barb. Make sure you post as a completed UFO on Q&L.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt; the colors are so soothing. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThere are no bad arrangements on this one at all - it's lovely. A very calming quilt.
ReplyDeleteHey! I never would have known this is not what you planned. It is one of those awesomely random quilts that modern quilt makers make! I like it a lot. :)
ReplyDeleteLove both the design and the colours of this quilt, does it matter if you are out here and there - I don't think so - it adds interest!!
ReplyDeleteI like the layout. It will be fun quilting it! Love your colors.
ReplyDeletelol you will have to do a better job of making a terrible quilt next time, no such luck on this one; it it perfect!
ReplyDeleteLove this! It so reminds me of my Sea Glass quilt - same pretty colors. Be sure to show off the final finish!
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the unexpected turns, dead ends and detours!! It makes the quilt much more interesting to look at!! Yeah, I'm not all that into symmetry!!! I'd love to make one like it if I can just figure out how you did that amazing design!!
ReplyDeleteI love the randomness of all the zigs. Good luck finishing!
ReplyDeleteIt's delightfully random. Looking forward to the finished quilt.
ReplyDeleteLovely. Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
ReplyDeleteI love that it's more like a maze and not a real zig zag. It looks great and I wish you the best of luck for your OMG. Have fun!

I really like the haphazard look. And the colors are so pretty. May not be what you intended, but it came out great.
ReplyDeleteI love those colors!! What a cheery quilt to chase away the January blues. You know, I didn't even notice the placement of the blocks because the color variation flowing across the quilt makes your eyes follow the colors. Awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I love all of the different blues paired with the white fabric.
ReplyDeleteI like your layout, scrappy is good;)
ReplyDeleteI like how the paths run through it here and there! Such pretty colors, too!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite scrappy blocks. I really like how you laid yours out. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
