Party On, at the Quilter's Christmas Party!

Did someone say "Party"?  I'm in!

Time to get ready for this virtual Christmas Party.  I have a favorite red sweater that I bring out only for the holidays, so I'm going to jump into that. Maybe find those Avon Christmas tree earrings I inherited from my mom (I know they're someplace in the dark recesses of my jewelry stand), touch up my hair a bit, and I'm ready to go. Oh, yes - can't forget the hostess gift! I'll bring a bottle of fine wine, packaged ever so nicely in one of the classy wine gift bags I made this year for my Etsy shop!

What the heck am I talking about? Well, it's the Quilter's Christmas Party sponsored by our good friend SewCalGal.

Not to disappoint, she has lined up a plethora of great giveaways from her gracious sponsors, and has included an opportunity for you to make a donation to a great cause - Operation Homefront. You can participate by buying raffle tickets - check out her site for more details.

Christmas.  What a special time of year, not only for remembering why we celebrate, but for the chance for loved ones to come together.  If it wasn't for Christmas, would you 'make' time to get all your kids and parents together for a few days? Or does life get too busy and those things would not always get done?

This year is a little more special for our family.  On Christmas Day, it will be my in-laws' 60th Wedding Anniversary.  Just think: they got married on Dec. 25, 1952.  That's such a busy day to get married, but my father-in-law was home on leave from his duty in Korea. The window of opportunity was slim, so they just went for it!  60 years - hard to believe.  They are 80 and 78 now, but to me, they don't look a day over 50 (my perspective changes drastically the older I get. To illustrate, I'm 57 and I'm absolutely certain I don't look a day over 30. Oh wait. My son is 30. What am I thinking!!!!)

Anyway, all their kids and grandkids and friends and a few other relatives are getting together for a celebration on the 22nd. I'm so looking forward to it. Not only will be get to spend time with everyone, but both our son and daughter are coming home, and my daughter is bringing her boyfriend so she can show him her old stomping grounds. How exciting!

Our house, a few winters ago. That's Misty sniffing at the corner - gotta love those corners, if you're a dog, that is!
On the quilting side of Christmas, I have been so busy this fall with my Day Job and then with trying to get ready for a Christmas Fair (it was last weekend, lots of fun, sold lots, glad it's over - whew!), that I hadn't even had time to think about making anything for gifts. But then I decided I've love to make a quilt for my dad, who is losing his eyesight.  I want him to be able to 'see' my handiwork while he can.

However, I can't find the fabrics I want in our local quilt shop, I don't have the proper time to devote to it, and so it's not going to happen. But I am going to make it right after New Year's and give it to him as a belated Christmas gift.  I'm very happy to be working on something like this.

What makes you happy at Christmastime?  Any special going on in your life this month? I'd love to hear what you are all up to.

Don't forget to visit SewCalGal soon!

  2. My family loves getting together. it is something our granddaddy instilled in us while we were growing up. Family is a very important part of our lives. My siblings and I got together on Saturday after Thanksgiving for the Alabama/Auburn ballgame. 2 of us are die-hard Bama fans (me and my brother)... the other 2, well they aren't right in their minds... Who likes the color orange?? except our 2 sisters.. lol

We get together when we can all through the year, even if it is only to pop popcorn and watch movies. Christmas is a special time but we have quilt (trading) money.. No gifts... The biggest gift is the gift of being together... We love to play games, thanks to our granny ida... She lived with us for years because our other grandpa was killed when our mom was only 4... Granny was too scared to live by herself so she lived back and forth between 3 of her 9 living children. We got to have her for several years and enjoyed every minute of it! We were always at the dining room table playing dominoes, aggravation or rummy. She also loved to see the New Year in playing Rook.

Memories of those times are always close in heart.

(I think I know what I will be posting now.. Funny how you let loose with the keyboard and find out what spills forth) :)

    Merry Christmas!

  4. Wonderful snowy photo! What a fun party - I didn't even have to get out of my PJ's to attend! LOL

  5. Merry Christmas, Barb! I love that photo of your house -- I don't know where you live, but that reminds me of the home where I grew up in Minnesota. We used to dig tunnels and "igloos" through the snow banks that piled up next to the driveway and the road. Here in North Carolina, we're lucky if we see any snowflakes at all -- Christmas just isn't the same without the wintry wonderland. Thanks for bringing those memories back to me!

  6. The six grandkid quilts have been shipped - they all get quilts from Gramma this year! Now I'm taking a breather and just working on small things for a while. Merry Christmas!

  8. Happy Anniversary to your in-laws....how exciting!

Love the photo with the snow up to ...well....up the keester so to speak...LOL. I always enjoy a good snow storm.

This year, two of our daughters will be home and my in-laws are coming. No matter who is here...I always just enjoy the music, the tree, and the dinner. I'm not much into the rest of the excitement....it's too much for me.

    Happiest of Holidays to you!

    Smiles,
    Kelly

  11. Thanks for coming to the Quilter's Christmas Party. You look so cute in that red sweater and you mom's Avon earrings. Your wine bags, which you sell in your ETSY shop are so cute. I bet they were very popular at your booth in the recent craft fair. Just wish I could have joined you. I love shopping at craft fairs.

Congratulations to your grandparents. How very special that your family will be getting together to celebrate their 50th. Definitely going to be a fun holiday.

Remembering All The Little Things

I have let my blog side away in lieu of posting photos and updates over on Instagram. For me, it takes less time, and is a faster way to doc...
